Frequently Asked Questions

What is “Klan Kulture?” It sounds inflammatory…

Because it is. Klan Kulture is the misogynist white supremacist ideology that seeks to oppress the rights of marginalized and exploited peoples around the globe. The brand is intentionally provocative to draw individuals into the discussion and call attention to the disparities created by the normalization of global authoritarianism as it manifests in the persecution of women’s rights, the LGBTQ+ community and the poor. It’s meant to be “in your face” because you don’t fight fascism with flowers. We are confronting it directly and with communal intention. Three K’s in a row meant nothing until racism converted it into a symbol of hate. We are taking these symbols back and repurposing them to represent something else and are unapologetic in our efforts to do so.

There are no “Be Kind” keychains here.

But you’re just selling T-shirts…

We’re doing MUCH more than that. Our apparel is functional art. Every article out of our shop connects to our ongoing messaging campaign to the public via our dynamic QR codes. Currently there are 42 codes which point to portals for the current states that allow online voter registration. They are live and working now. You can try them out and share. Sales of our merchandise keep the codes active. As the art project grows so does our reach and influence.

You’re calling this an art project? Why?

Correction-it’s an ACTIVEArt project. Our brand is political and we know this. ActiveArt is functional art with the primary intention of political activism and awareness. Participants in this project aren’t just bringing a gallery installation to their streets, offices and homes, they’re also facilitating an information network as the dynamic QR codes are updated to reflect local messaging initiatives. Activists can contact us and attach their approved campaigns to our brand as needed. Buyers are becoming billboards for democracy.

Adoption is advertisement is ambassadorship.

Who are the people on the shirts? What’s their connection to the brand?

Our initial campaign of apparel in this installation focuses on trailblazers of various genders, ages, religious affiliations and sexual orientations who have fought (and in some cases suffered and died) for social justice issues. They not only embody the spirit of our brand but allow for us to educate the public about their respective legacies. Just looking at our project and sharing it with others helps in the preservation of their sacrifices and pushes back against those who would see them wiped from the history books.

Can I put MY art on one of your shirts?

We are currently building a roster of artists we are looking to collaborate with on apparel. Feel free to submit samples of your work to info@kancelklankulture.com. Someone will get back to you about licensing your content for our brand.

How else can I support?

Donations to our cause are always welcome but we are also accepting sponsorship partnerships to keep the Codes to Democracy alive. As the dynamic codes are updated, advertising space is available at national and local levels across the country for those who might be interested in partnering with us. Understand that we are very serious about our brand and its intention to liberate all people. We may not match with yours but we’re willing to listen if you are. Contact us at info@kancelklankulture.com.

Aren’t you worried about alienating people?

No. Even if you don’t care for us we care for you. We are resolved in what we are and what we represent. If equity, inclusion, democracy and social justice are hot button issues for you, so is this brand. Wearing our apparel not only requires a commitment to these ideologies but also carries a responsibility to be informed about them as you have discussions with those who approach you about what you have on.

This brand isn’t for everyone. We hope it’s for you.
